Perth-founded Village Energy – an energy tech company that has partnerships with multiple grip operators to make last-mile energy visible and sustainable – has been featured on the 2020 APAC 25 list compiled by Cleantech Group, a global provider of research in sustainable innovation.

Village’s unique platform uses AI and machine learning to control local grids in real-time.

“Our technology will deliver cheaper more reliable energy to millions of households whilst benefiting electricity grid operators and providing massive emission reduction outcomes,” said Ben Hamilton, CEO of Village Energy.

“We’re focused on the emerging markets in APAC initially, but we believe our technology has [a] global application and we certainly expect to be a significant company in the energy technology space within a five-to-ten-year timeframe. We’re very grateful to the Cleantech Group for formally recognising our achievements and we’re honoured to be receiving this esteemed nomination.”

Along with their engagement in sustainable innovation, featured companies are viewed as likely to have a significant impact in the region within a five to ten-year time frame.

This is only the third such annual list which involves an expert panel who use a ‘blind’ nomination process – meaning no expert can see the other panelists’ nominations – in addition to using APAC-related inputs from the annual Global Cleantech 100 process.

Alongside Cleantech, APAC 25 is supported by Enterprise Singapore and ADB Ventures, a new VC fund that provides investment for highly scalable businesses that seek to assist various countries across Asia Pacific in regards to meeting sustainable development goals.

The fund envisions to invest $1 billion towards such businesses by 2030.

Richard Youngman, CEO of Cleantech Group believes innovative technology companies will have a growing impact on sustainability in the region.

“The Asia Pacific region will dominate some of the new industries and supply chains that will emerge from global mega-trends such as alternative proteins, electrification and new mobility, to name but three,” said Richard Youngman.

“It will also be a leader in digitalization, given its weight of population and the size of its industrial base. Both dynamics are borne out in our third annual APAC 25 list of rising star innovation companies from around the region.”

Being featured on the list follows a string of awards and acknowledgment for the startup in recent times, which includes being one of 19 finalists for the Australian Technology Competition and co-founder Yvonne Power having been named as one of the recipients of this year’s Business News 40under40 awards.
