Are you looking for an office, M+A deals, top 200 startups, Startup Weekend or ‘State of Social’ early birds & updated events?

Here’s some stuff you may like to be made aware of, odd and ends, scraps, bytes if you must (and I must)…

Looking for 40sqm office?

We’ve been made aware of 40m2 office that can be sublet from a startup business located in Leederville, a stone’s throw from the coffee strip. We’re told “it’s a great space, comes with a small reception area, whiteboards, pool table and fridge. (all necessities ha!) Only $1000 per month + 1/3 of outgoings”.

Email us here at Startup News for more information, and we’ll pass you on.

Latest M&A Wrap

“The value of a business is the value it is to the one that will ultimately buy it” (Jordan Green, Australian Angel investors). If this is true, then it is wise to keep an eye on what merger and acquisition deals are out there, and likely trends. You need to know what you might be working towards.

Pitcher Partners recently released the 4th issue of their annual Dealmakers report, which tracks M&A trends in Australia.

Startup News has seen the report, relevant highlights include:

  • the TMT (technology, media, telecommunications) sector is likely to be the busiest sector, ahead of consumer and financial services;
  • the EMU (energy, mining and utilities) sector, which was the busiest in 2017, drops to 5th on the list of the likely most active sectors in 2018;
  • 40% of dealmakers see cybersecurity as a risk for M&A; and 25% see issues around cybersecurity as an opportunity;
  • 78% of respondents expect deal activity levels to increase on 2017 levels;
  • 22% expect deal levels to remain as least as high as 2017;
  • 2017 was a year of surging M&A activity in Australia, with 1,127 deals (up 55% on volume terms on 2016) worth $122.6 billion (up 17% in value terms).
  • Importantly, activity in the mid-market level (deals worth between $10m and $250m) again dominated the overall picture in terms of volume, making up 77% of total deal activity.

Note how TMT has surged to the top of the list as the most active sector.

Top 200 startups in the world

Canva has been judged #13 startup in the world, according to some new latest analysis. The top 200 is dominated by US startups (72 of them), and Australia has 5. No guesses for who holds the top 2 positions.

/4/ Startup Weekend is back, and gone social impact

Perth’s (12th) Startup Weekend is set for weekend of 4th-6th May and early bird tickets are now on sale. The same, but different, this time it has a theme – social impact – so it could be about sustainable living, equality, diversity, community… it’s up to you. Learn how to build a social impact startup, from the ground up, in 54 hours of frenetic hacking and hustling. Unmissable.

Early bird prices finish on March 30th. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
