// Invest and Trade WA is seeking to sponsor four WA-based businesses to help them get heard in the 2024 Sushi Tech Tokyo Global Startup Program.

With just under 100 days before SusHi Tech Tokyo Global Startup Program kicks off for 2024, Invest and Trade WA is seeking expressions of interest from WA-based startups and companies to help sponsor them at the Japanese tech festival.

With only four spots up for grabs, successful applicants will receive support from Invest and Trade WA with booth access (so that all that technological capability can be successfully demonstrated), alongside being given access to collaboration and partnership opportunities with other startups from around the world.

SusHi (or Sustainable High City Tech for Future) wants to make sustainable cities a reality with the key themes for 2024 being infrastructure, environment, living, culture, and impact.

SusHi Tech runs from May 15 to 16 at the Tokyo Big Sight, and this year features six guest speakers as well as a pitch contest – billed as “one of Asia’s largest pitch contests with a remarkable number of applicants and substantial prize money.”

That substantial prize money comes in the form of ten million yen (AU$102,900) for the winner. Last year’s contest saw 338 companies from 35 countries apply to the pitch contest. Supplementary prizes from event sponsors are also available.

The six guest speakers for the event include:

  • Suntory Holdings President and CEO Takeshi Niinami
  • KEIDANREN Vice Chair and Founder and Executive Chairman at DeNA Co, Tomoko Namba
  • Harvard Business Review Editor-in-Chief Adi Ignatius
  • PONY.ai CFO Haojun Wang
  • IVS Crypto Head Whiplus Wang
  • MASHINGUP Editor in Chief Yuko Endo.

Invest and Trade WA’s sponsorship is open to small to medium WA-based enterprises which operate within: Edtech; FinTech; sports tech; health or medical tech; infrastructure or mobility; and those within the energy, green tech, or climate tech sectors.

Eligibility criteria for candidates can be found here, and expressions of interest close on February 16, 2024.
