- Round three applications are now open for Defence Science Centre’s Collaborative Research Grant
- Funding for projects between $50,000 to $150,000
- Funding from the first two rounds resulted in 11 projects receiving a total of $1.6 million
The Defence Science Centre, which is a part of the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI) has announced the third round for the Centre’s Collaborative Research Grants.
As long as each collaboration features at least one DSC-member university, the funding is available for universities, industry and government.
The Grants support the goals of the West Australian Government’s Defence and Defence Industries Strategic Plan which is designed to facilitate growth within the local defence industry – including the creation of jobs.
In order to receive the seed funding – which ranges from $50,000 to $150,000 – projects must be linked specifically to the technologically-themed Next Generation Technologies Fund or round three of maritime maintenance and sustainment.
“When the McGowan Government came to office Western Australia was voiceless in the national defence space; so one of the key actions we have taken is establish a Defence Science Centre and association grants scheme,” said Defence Issues Minister Paul Papalia.
“We are committed to boosting innovation and emerging technologies in the defence industry, and creating more local defence jobs.”

The first two rounds resulted in $1.6 million of seed funding towards 11 research projects.
Mr Papalia hopes the collaborative projects build not just a stronger defence ecosystem for WA, but help to build a more diversified local economy.
“By fostering the relationships between universities, industry and government, we are helping to strengthen WA’s defence industry capabilities, commercialise emerging technologies and diversify the State’s economy.”
Applications will be open until March 17.
