The ten Western Australia startups selected for the Quantum TX WA 2021 program have been announced.
The program – the third installment of the initiative – seeks to facilitate the use of technologies from mining, energy and defence by applying them to the space and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Adjunct Professor Peter Rossdeutscher, Founder of the Quantum Technology Exchange, said the program has been successful in both the transfer of technology and utilising business acceleration to create jobs.
The circular nature of these opportunities creates advantages, compounding returns and new jobs in all industries.
QuantumTX helps facilitate access to multi-sector test sites, specialist sector expertise, technical mentors and international opportunity workshops.

Lina Velosa, who participated in the Quantum TX 2020 WA program with Nexxis Technology, said the program successfully provided insights into future technologies and added the results were tangible.
“Atomic Sky mentoring and international networking introductions created opportunities that had measurable outcomes, which positively affected our overall business strategy,” said Ms Velosa.
She also remarked that since the program ended back in March 2020, Nexxis have created 17 new Western Australian jobs consisting of nine full-time equivalents and five casual employees.
Not long after the program ended, Nexxis launched its female-led Indigenous Robotics Skills company, Lab61, which provides opportunities to upskill businesses in robotic operations.
Additionally, Lab61 provides opportunities through its Robotic Academy, Work Experience and Graduate program which the company said future-fits younger generations.
Who are the lucky ten?
Below are this year’s ten diverse participants in the Quantum TX WA program:
- Cumulus Projects – Transforming organisations with the spatial web for connected workers and remote operations;
- Tap Into Safety – Online and mobile-friendly training and assessment platform for high-risk industries;
- Zella DC – Next-generation server room, micro data centres built for anywhere and making productivity sustainable;
- Oleology – Oily water treatment and PFAS water treatment solution to below detectable levels;
- AiSpanner – Connected datacentric maintenance lifecycle solution integrating analytics & 3D Visualisation;
- iSOL8 – Digital LOTO system which reduces plant downtime and eliminates human errors
- Epichem – Synthetic chemistry solutions addressing waste management with carbon neutral waste conversion tech;
- Quantify Technology – Electrical IoT solutions that help organisations optimise power usage and improve safety;
- ACT Australia & NZ – Industrial live-theatre and film that facilitates a catalyst for people development, skills and safety; and,
- ISOLABS – Emergent technologies for advanced analytics and empowered decision making.
The program is operated by Atomic Sky with support from Imvelo and Innovation Cluster. The Western Government are partner sponsors through its New Industries Fund X-TEND WA Program, along with AROSE, METS Ignited, Fugro and NERA.
Tap into Safety Founder, Dr Susanne Bahn – who was recently interviewed on the Startup West podcast – said one of the key reasons she applied to participate in the program was in order to learn how to better position her products into new markets.
The Tap into Safety training platform includes over 90 training courses for skills, leadership, safety and mental health, supported by robust assessments and GAP reporting.
These apply directly to a range of sectors so the program will be extremely beneficial to expanding our business.

“Access to the network of business scaleup and international sector experts, we believe, will also be a significant benefit to our planned international sales expansion,” added Dr Bahn.
Karl Rodrigues, Executive Director International and National Engagement at Australian Space Agency, said he believes small and medium sized Australian businesses can play an important role in the space industry.
Australia has great capability in key existing sectors such as resources, energy, communications, medicine and more, and it is these businesses that now have an opportunity to adapt those proven solutions to the needs of the emerging space sector.
