People Diagnostix – the WA startup behind digital mental health platform FlourishDx – has made several eye-catching announcements this week.

First of these is the awarding of a $372K grant for their technology as part of a partnership with the Institute of Positive Education at Geelong Grammar School and Monash University.

The deal with see FlourishDx made available to up to 90 Victorian schools over the next two years.

The project is fully funded by the WorkWell Mental Health Improvement fund – overseen by WorkSafe Victoria.

“The most common workplace injury for teachers in Australia are psychological,” said Jason van Schie, Managing Director and co-founder at People Diagnostix.

“This type of injury, caused by work related stress (common causes of work-related stress for teachers include workload and dealing with challenging student behaviour) typically costs the most to employers in regards to recovery time off work and compensation claims.

“The WorkWell funding will enable us to demonstrate how FlourishDx can assist in preventing psychological injuries and promoting positive mental health for this vulnerable population.”

Global Leader

This week, People Diagnostix also announced a new strategic partnership with the Generali Employee Benefits Network (GEB) of Luxembourg.

GEB is the leading global employee benefits network by geographic reach and size. GEB is a strategic unit of the Generali Group, one of the world’s top insurers by global premium income and provides insurance solutions in over 120 countries.

“GEB’s new partnership with FlourishDx will provide our clients with access to discounted digital tools and services to help them support the mental well-being of their global workforce,” said Daniela Masters, Head of Health & Wellness Programmes at GEB.

“FlourishDx is focused on the global prevention of mental illness and the promotion of mental wellbeing,” said Jason. “GEB’s impressive global network will help us to address a worldwide issue on a highly meaningful scale.”

Certified

In a busy month of announcements for the company, they have also achieved the ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification, the international standard for information security management systems (ISMS).

SAI Global Limited, a third-party assessment organization, independently inspected the management system in place for FlourishDx against 114 controls.

Compliance with this standard demonstrates People Diagnostix’s commitment to monitoring adherence to best practices through repeatable processes including data transmission, storage, access controls, logging, operations, cryptography, management of third parties, incident management and tracking of threats.

“It is becoming common place for enterprise customers to expect vendors to be certified with ISO 27001 in order to entrust them with sensitive data,” said Jason. “Given the private health information (PHI) we collect; we saw the 12 months’ investment in developing our information security management system to this standard as a non-negotiable.”

Beginnings

Founded in 2014 with a focus on face-to-face workplace psychology interventions such as well-being workshops and organisational development consulting, People Diagnostix made the pivot to technology in 2017 in order to address the large scale and global issue of mental health.

FlourishDx and ‘Flourishing at School’ (the school student version of the application) is already in use internationally including the UK, Canada and the USA.

Local customers include Newcrest Mining and La Trobe University. The technology has a strong focus on data analytics in order to help workplaces and schools understand and address environmental and individual factors in order to prevent mental illnesses occurring in the first place.

Fund Raise

The company has also announced the opening of a Series A funding round.

The investment will go towards supporting four key areas: growing the team, building the brand, product development and driving local and international sales.

The raise comes as mental health made front page headlines last week, with the ABC reporting that suicide rates in Australia could rise by 50 per cent due to the economic and social impacts of the global pandemic.
