One of the federal government’s ‘growth centres’ – MTPConnect – has launched a new voucher program to boost medical products manufacturing in Western Australia.
The funds are made available through the MTPConnect WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub, which is co-funded through the WA Government’s New Industries Fund and the University of Western Australia.
Managing Director and CEO for MTPConnect, Dr Dan Grant, highlighted the importance of the medtech sector.
Medical products are one of six national manufacturing priority areas forAustraliaand we’re looking to help SMEs in WA accelerate development of their medical device, diagnosticand pharmaceutical manufacturing projectsand help WA-based manufacturers increase their capabilities in advanced manufacturing of medical products.”

The grant
Matching grants of between $50,000 to $100,000 are available.
The funding is across the full gamut of technology, from pre-production to post-production phases of the manufacturing cycle, the caveat being “… all of the project’s activities need to be undertaken in WA.”
Dr Grant also said encouraged people who didn’t currently have a capability in WA to apply, effectively driving talent into WA.
Eligible projects, MTPConnect said, include:
- small proof-of-concept runs for early-stage companies/start-ups
- implement or upgrade a relevant quality management system (e.g.ISO 13485)
- digitalisation of manufacturing industry technologies and processes relevant to the production of MTP products
- support for upscaling activities
