Building software and bending people was the topic of Matt Lambie’s presentation yesterday at Morning Startup held at SpaceCubed, although. The talk focussed a lot on Jiu jitsu and startups, providing an analogy on how fighting and grappling are applicable to business.
Matt Lambie is the CIO and Founder of Frontier Group, formed in 2002 by a group of friends with some similar ideals.
A notable quote from the presentation was “A black belt is a white belt that never quit”. Very applicable to startups, but also appropriate was the ‘know when to tap out before you arm gets broken’ scenario. Knowing when you’re defeated before its too late lets you live to fight another day, or launch another startup in this case. Check out a photo of the crowd here.
Morning Startup also added a new co-organiser to the team, Stef Pienaar. He joins Justin Strharsky and Isaak Dury as the driving force behind one of Perths largest startup groups, with a membership of over 650 people. With fortnightly meetings held at the ungodly hour of 7:30am, its not surprising that a free coffee from Voltage Espresson is the reward for the presenter.
