A little bit more about Autism West and Toby Playpad

Autism West is a local charity that provides innovative and unique autism services. In addition to its ground-breaking work on TOBY, an autism therapy app, its wide range of services include social and life skills programs, sensory activity days, carers’ retreats, an information service, access to the Argonaut autism resource centre and an annual conference. It also supports a pilot mentoring project at Curtin University for students with autism.
Autism is a lifelong neurobiological disorder that affects the development of social interaction, communication and play. In Australia today, approximately one in 61 school‐aged children in Australia has autism. Autism West’s aim is to help kids with autism reach their potential, and it continues to raise community understanding of autism through its many community events.

TOBY Playpad is a unique and revolutionary early intervention app for parents/carers of children with autism. TOBY initially provides information on basic teaching and learning principles required to help a child with autism. TOBY then offers a range of on iPad and an extensive list of off iPad tasks to help a child learn skills in their real world.flowperth1

TOBY has been designed by a highly qualified team, including clinical psychologists, speech and occupational pathologists, along with specialist computer technicians. Dr Svetha Venkatesh from Curtin/Deakin Universities and Nedlands based charity Autism West have partnered this wonderful project.
