You can probably chart the modern day beginnings of the local tech startup scene to the first ever Startup Weekend down at Spacecubed – as it was known then – in September 2012.
The mining construction boom was coming off the boil, and some 100 plucky startuppy people met for the first ever Perth-based weekend of frenzied coding, designing and pitching.
Perth first startup co-working space had only opened its doors a few months earlier. There are now 55 such places in WA, along with 137 programs, incubators and event series.
That first Startup Weekend was an amazing success, and the event has returned to Perth twice a year since.
Come learn what it’s like to be in a startup, for a crazy condensed 54 hours. Have an idea? Want to be part of a team? Smash out some code, design a new company logo, present to the judges on Sunday, get little sleep, laugh til you are tired, bang the table, and do it all over again 5 minutes later?
