Amcom has funded a new accelerator program for Perth startups, and the launch event was this Tuesday at Spacecubed
Using the pool of experienced entrepreneurs and veteran investors in Perth, with funding provided by Amcom, Upstart is a fantastic program to assist new tech entrepreneurs in Perth. The launch event in Spacecubed on Tuesday promoted the program to a capacity crowd, who grilled Rob Nathan, the program organiser, with questions about the program. We covered the actual program details here.
One thing really struck me during the launch: Tony Grist (Amcom chairman) responding to a question about what Amcom was aiming to achieve from the program, by saying that Amcom was supporting the program because they wanted to support new tech entrepreneurs in Perth, and not primarily because they looked at it as a money-making venture. Obviously we all hope that this does make everyone involved a lot of money, but being willing to risk some cash to help the community is laudable and we applaud Amcom for doing it.
We’re really looking forward to seeing how this helps the ecosystem, and hopefully provides a real boost for local startups trying to get funding, always a perennial problem here.
