As the old saying goes, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

According to a new series of studies, there are 15 common behaviours that make effective business leaders and strong teams. These were then simplified to five key elements of leadership, which are essential for building up a reliable team…

1: Applying inspiration

Team leaders need to rev up their teammates while progressing towards goals. Incentives for motivation aren’t just limited to money or status; giving team members a sense of belonging, and knowledge of being ahead of your competitors due to their work efforts helps too.

The formula of high performance is a burning passion, so stoke your team’s flames.

2: Devising your own conflict resolution strategy.

As much as management wants to believe that adults can settle their conflicts with one another, it is sometimes better to intervene and mediate between parties. Effective leaders will know how to allow both sides to walk away feeling heard and respected, and acknowledge that we are all humans and make mistakes.

3: Promoting change in what they do.

From the research, they noticed that workers are more likely to work late and place more effort if they know what they’re doing can make a difference.

People want to be part of something innovative.

4: Communicating in repetition

Each new project and new change within your business still holds the same values which help push you all forward.

Repeating these goals not only gives your team a final destination, but also invites their own solutions to achieve it. Effective leaders use this to give their team a sense of ownership in their work.

5: Earn your team’s trust

A sense of trust will lay a foundation for safer conflict resolution, easier discussion of new ideas and solutions and stepping out of comfort zones to move your business’s goals forward.
