Perth-based micro data provider Zella DC has secured a $406K Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre (AMGC) Commercialisation Grant.
The grant will look to boost Zella DC’s efforts in developing the ‘next generation’ Micro Data Centre, which the company says is a game-changer in design, scalability and energy efficiency, using new lightweight materials suitable for advanced manufacturing.
Zella DC CEO and co-founder Angie Keeler acknowledged what the grant meant to the company and pointed to the fast-growing Micro Data Centre market.
We’ve been developing and improving our products for over ten years; this grant will help us move up to the next level of our research and development.
We will use the funds to work on a new and exciting project that will help companies accelerate the implementation of their edge strategy within any indoor or outdoor environment.

Zella DC is a leading player in the fast-growing micro data centre market. This growth is fuelled by technology like 5G, IoT, AI and big data, and the need to implement a ‘solid edge’ infrastructure strategy.
Providing energy efficiencies and rapid scalability options, Zella DC micro data centres are positioned within the edge computing industry, a global market that is forecast to reach US$16B by 2025.
The company was also recognised as a 2020 finalist in the Edge Startup of the Year Awards by Edge Computing World.
AMGC grants
The AMGC is an industry-led, not-for-profit organisation established through the Australian Government’s Industry Growth Centres Initiative. AMGC’s vision is to transform Australian manufacturing to become an internationally competitive, dynamic and thriving industry with advanced capabilities and skills at its core.
Last year, wine fraud detection company Cellr won a matching $150K AMGC grant.
In consultation with all Industry Growth Centres, and CSIRO, the second and third tranche of funding has been awarded to 15 Australian manufacturers, including Zella DC.
The manufacturers are companies that have “demonstrat(ed) their enthusiasm and willingness to do their bit to grow the Australian workforce and economy”.
