To say there is a bit of a movement in startup and entrepreneurial activities in Perth and the rest of Australia would be an understatement.
The past six years has seen the creation of numerous groups, co-working spaces, startup boot camp style educators and almost daily events and presentations targeting the startup scene. This publication included 🙂
Only last week there was a massive Startup entrepreneurs and innovators Think tank organized by Tim Brewer to bring together all the local thought leaders involved in startup ecosystem. The goal of this ThinkTank was to position startups and the supporting ecosystem as an alternative industry to Mining, Oil and Gas in between the boom times.
Today the following statement was issued today by StartupAUS, a not-for-profit entity formed by Google with a mission to foster and build the community of technology entrepreneurship in Australia.
“Australia is at a crossroads. We have an unprecedented opportunity to transition from an economy based on resources, primary industries and domestically focused businesses to one based on high-growth knowledge-intensive businesses that can compete globally in an increasingly technology-driven world.”
The Crossroads report was commissioned by StartupAUS on behalf of the national tech startup community. It sets out an action plan for growth and maturation of the Australian startup ecosystem, identifying key policy areas that require government intervention and recommending specific actions that should be taken to accelerate the growth of the tech sector. The Crossroads report makes the case that as a nation we need to take immediate and far-reaching steps to address market failures that are impeding the growth of our startup ecosystem.
