Startup Weekend Perth is happening this weekend, so in the long tradition of Perth Startup Weekends, here’s one of the ideas.
Imagine if finding a mentor or leader was possible with a simple swipe of a button. Now it is.
In 54 hours our team, YoPro, will experience the highs, lows, fun, and pressure that make up life at a startup. YoPro is about connecting recent graduates with young professionals in their chosen profession or industry, via a simple swipe style website and app.
With 32% of graduates currently looking for a job, we understand that the majority have questions and they don’t know who to ask. Questions about careers, specialisations, opportunities, challenges, and finding a niche. Most importantly, graduates want to know the good, the bad and the ugly of their chosen industry or field – these are questions that can really only be answered by those directly in the job.
Essentially, YoPro is about connecting to your future self.
Why YoPro?
Mentees get real, pragmatic career advice, an understanding of what they’re getting themselves in to and an opportunity to expand their network into the professional workplace.
Mentors have an opportunity to give back to their community, profession and industry by mentoring the next generation of future leaders.
Firms can get successful internal referrals from existing graduate employees if they endorse YoPro and encourage their graduates to participate as mentors.
To be a part of YoPro, mentors are categorised by years of experience from 0-5 years, 5-10 years experience and 10+ years. Mentees pay a minimal annual subscription and that commences once the mentee finds a mentor.
The YoPro model has the potential to open up doors to potential internships, traineeships and possible job opportunities. Finding a leader and mentor within your industry could be as simple as a swipe.
