When Startup News was started by some local startup founders in late 2013, they did not know what they were doing. They’ll admit that.
“We absolutely did not know what we were doing,” said the Startup News founders.
See, what did I tell you?
Bless them. They would run out during their lunch breaks and interview startup founders, then tap away at articles into the wee small hours.
Like most startups they had no customers, no revenue, and very few visitors.
“We had no customers, no revenue, and very few people visited the site,” said the founders.
I just told them that.
“Well, it was true.”
For six months in 2017, Startup News went dark, and did not post any articles at all.
“We went dark; we did not post anything for six months [this is getting a little irritating]… well, one of the founders left the country, for a start, and the others, well, we got busy with our startups.”
In 2018, they started a podcast, Startup West, and like Startup News, it’s still going, and will soon publish its 100th episode.
“We’ll publish our 100th episode soon.”
Yes, I just told them that also.
“Sorry.”
No worries.
Well, as Startup News enters its 10th year of operations, we really want to thank all our readers, which number 1,500+ a week, plus the 3,000 or so on the weekly email (every Friday 3pm), as well as our wonderful sponsors, who are the only reason we can even run the site, the podcast, the annual Startup News awards, and stuff.
Thank you sponsors! You rock. 🤘🏼
Sponsor Time – thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you
Australian and Global Recognition
So, after almost 10 years of pumping out almost 2,000 articles and 100 podcast episodes, it was nice to see the FeedSpot site duly recognise the work, making Startups News the 4th highest-ranked startup news blog in Australia, and Startup West the number 1 startup podcast in the country (and #30 globally!).
Best Startup blog sites in Australia…
Best Startup Podcasts in Australia and Globally…
Not bad for our little operation, working away in this corner of the world.
FeedSpot charts sites and podcasts based on 3 main measurements: “traffic, social media followers & freshness”. Being consistent is key – pumping out content that people latch onto and use, and value.
WA startups and startup founders – you rock. 🤘🏼 We love writing about your exploits (just keep sending your stories to ‘[email protected]’) and hearing from you on the Startup West podcast.
What’ll we do for the next 10 years of Startup News and next 5 years of Startup West? We’ll keep on keeping on, shining a light on you lot, you wonderful WA founders, innovators and startups you.
“Yeah!”
