Are you working on an innovative location-based idea and need funding to make it fly? The first round of the SPURonWA Grants is coming, with applications for round one opening on 17 October.

The SPURonWA grant program is a competitive grant with the aim of supporting individuals and businesses develop innovative products and services. To qualify, you need to be based in Western Australian (WA) and your idea must have a strong location information component. SPUR has allocated $100,000 for the 2016/17 financial year to the grant program. Individual grants are offered up to $25,000 each.

Grant funds are not intended to finance projects in full, however they are designed to progress your idea, product or service to market.  Applications must include a budget detailing the requested grant funds and other funding sources. Applications for grants can be commercial or community focused.

SPUR will hold an information briefing for potential applicants on Thursday 13 October 2016 at 5.30pm at Spacecubed. You can register your attendance here.

Examples of what the grant funds can be used towards include (but aren’t limited to):

  • intellectual property protection
  • product development (prototype development, product testing, engineering design work)
  • commercialisation services (business, financial, marketing or legal advice)

The grant will not fund activities retrospectively, or support business as usual costs (eg established products and services or salaries). SPUR will evaluate applications based on the objectives. Other assessment considerations include:

  • Value for money
  • The applicant’s own investment in the project
  • The applicant’s ability to secure other sources of funding. This is to help ensure long term sustainability.

Applicants will be advised of the outcome by mid-December 2016 and feedback will be provided on request.
