A new platform has been launched to entice Asian startups and scaleups to set up, invest and grow in Western Australia.

Co-funded by the state government via the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI) and the City of Perth, the ‘Perth Landing Pad’ will enable overseas companies to experience 90 days in WA through a guided program. On offer is access to mentoring, local business connections, co-working and community spaces and guidance on long-term residency.

During this morning’s announcement, made on the fringes of the West Tech Fest conference, Spacecubed General Manager Chandra Sundareswaran said the Landing Pad is an extension to the services Spacecubed has provided over the past decade.

“For us, the benefits are two-pronged, attracting investment and nurturing skills from Asia to create global WA-based businesses and providing Australian businesses a pathway into Asian markets.”

WA shares the GMT+8 timezone with over 24% of the world’s population. This makes it the perfect base for Australian businesses to access these fast-growing global markets. It is also a competitive advantage for WA-based startups and helps foster collaboration between Australian startup founders and our neighbours to the North.

“The City of Perth is proud to see the launch of Perth Landing Pad, which will see more and more business choosing to be based here in the City. Our unique location makes Perth Australia’s gateway to Asian businesses and investments. Now more than ever, it’s clear the City is open for business,” added City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas.

With West Tech Fest (WTF) 2022 well and truly underway, Innovation and ICT Minister Stephen Dawson commended both Spacecubed and the City of Perth – both of whom are sponsors of this publication – for their close collaboration in bringing the Perth Landing Pad to fruition.

“Congratulations to Spacecubed on launching the Perth Landing Pad program and continuing to play a key role in enabling our local innovation sector to succeed,” said the Minister.

Perth Landing Pad is an exciting opportunity for Western Australia to attract new talent, establish new companies, and create local jobs that will diversify our economy. The McGowan Government is committed to supporting collaboration, attracting investors, and strengthening our start-up community.

The program is hoping to build on Perth’s profile as a destination of choice for both innovation and investment, while also simultaneously providing WA businesses with an entry into global markets.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade Minister Roger Cook added the state government is proud to support this homegrown initiative.

“Perth Landing Pad has the potential to attract new businesses and investment to Perth, creating a pipeline of growth businesses and sustainable, high-value jobs here in WA.

“The program will allow global businesses to tap into entrepreneurial support services here in Perth, and act as a gateway for WA businesses to connect with international partners.”

The program is open for applications now, and will start in the New Year. For more information, click here.
