Amidst the assortment of busy streets and varied architecture of Perth hides a rich, bountiful history. With Dark Stry‘s innovative mobile app, taking a stroll through that (sometimes dark) history has never been easier.

Dark Stry, a female-led startup based in WA set up by Erin Clark in February this year, uses immersive AI and AR technology to create self-guided walking tours straight to your phone. The app blends together photos, video and audio to create a seamless and immersive tour of Perth’s historical locations.

Erin has been dabbling in technology and startups for a while. When she’s not wearing her founder hat, she’s works with some of South East Asia’s largest (and smallest) organisations to improve how they innovate. She’s a previous WITWA Tech+ 20 Award winner and is actively involved in encouraging greater diversity in the technology sector.

After releasing their first-ever self-guided tour, which takes their users on a walk around Perth’s historical pubs and hospitality venues, the company has just released their latest (paid) tour.

Showcasing WA’s historical female entrepreneurs

The Enterprising Women’s Tour highlights and showcases the remarkable stories of seven female entrepreneurs from WA while also including stops for wining and dining. Some of the stories told in the tour include a social rights campaigner, a property magnate, a brothel madam, and more.

The tour includes wayfinding for each of the seven stops; audio narration and transcriptions for each stop; and archived photographs and audio.

This route is our love letter to inspiring historical female figures. We’ve scoured lots of locations and history books to bring these seven stories to life

Due to the support from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, this self-guided tour will help shed more light on the lesser-known stories of some of Perth’s most influential women from the past.

Launched on June 20th, 2022 the tour is priced at $15 per download and is available from the Apple and Google app stores.
