CSIRO is encouraging innovators to work in partnership with experts from the national body to undertake research and development projects under a dollar-matched funding program designed specifically for start-ups.

The program offers eligible small businesses access to dollar-matched funding of $10,000-$50,000, as well as end-to-end project support from CSIRO including the identification of research capability opportunities, project scoping and ongoing liaison.

Melbourne-based Program Manager of CSIRO Kick-Start, George Feast, will be visiting Perth in April to run an event at CORE about the program, and will be keen to chat to local innovators both within the resource sector and in other industries.

George says “CSIRO Kick-Start helps innovative small businesses access the vital research capabilities and expertise that they need to propel their business forward.”

Since launching CSIRO Kick-Start in April last year, we’ve already supported 25 Australian start-ups and small businesses through the program and I’m looking forward to seeing how we can help local businesses in Perth grow their business through research and development.”

CSIRO Kick-Start funding can be utilised to undertake research activities with CSIRO, such as:

  • Research into a new idea with commercial potential,
  • The development of a novel or improved product or process,
  • Testing a novel product or material developed by the small business.

CSIRO Kick-Start projects must be under 12 months in duration and businesses are required to make a cash contribution that matches the funding voucher.

You can find out more about the program on the CSIRO website.

The Perth event will be held at CORE Innovation Hub on Friday, 27 April is free to attend, however you do need to RSVP. Further details can be found here on the event page.
