Minister Dawson Announces New GreenTech Hub And Grants At West Tech Coast

This morning at West Tech Coast — part of the West Tech Fest conference week — the Hon. Stephen Dawson, Minister for Innovation and the Digital Economy and Science, announced the state government has entered into a $40M partnership with the Gorgon Joint Venture operated by Chevron Australia to focus on funding green technology and lowering carbon emissions.

Through this partnership, a new GreenTec Hub will be established along with a Lower Carbon Grants Program – Gorgon Fund which will fund large, transformational research and innovation activity across industries, technology platforms, and regions that support practical and effective decarbonisation solutions. The grants will range from $5M and $15M in size. More information about the Lower Carbon Grant Program – Gorgon Fund will be available in 2024 and can be found here.

Minister Dawson commented, “The Lower Carbon Grants Program will no doubt encourage companies to begin researching and developing ways which decrease their carbon footprint.”

A new GreenTech Hub will be established with funds of $4 million over four years, with a focus on accelerating green technologies and services in Western Australia. Modelled off the existing Government co-founded innovation hubs, the GreenTech Hub will drive entrepreneurship, build State-wide capability, and support the commercialisation of green technologies.

Dawson added “Establishing WA’s very own GreenTech Hub will help connect businesses, universities, and the community to address practical decarbonisation and sustainability challenges.”

“Unity and collaboration is the pathway to support the Cook Government’s commitment to decarbonisation and our goal of becoming leaders in future green technology.”
The government is currently seeking a suitably qualified and experienced operator organisation to undertake the implementation and management of the GreenTech Hub and its service delivery for 4 years. An EOI process is currently underway — more information on the EOI and how to apply can be found here.
