Data science specialist Alex Jenkins has been appointed as the new Director of the WA Data Science Innovation Hub (WADSIH), based at Curtin University from Thursday 24 June.
Curtin University Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Development, Professor Chris Moran welcomed Mr Jenkins to the new position and said he was excited to see him build on the foundational work of inaugural WADSIH Director Dr Liz Dallimore, who has recently been appointed the CEO of Argenica Therapeutics.
Mr Jenkins has more than 15 years’ experience working in the technology space, implementing and advocating for data science and analytics solutions. He has also worked with leading organisations such as BHP and St John of God Healthcare, using his expertise to define big data, supply chain modelling and data science solutions.
His experience will ensure that the Hub continues to drive innovation and deliver a high level of data science counsel to the WA Community.
Mr Jenkins said he was looking forward to taking on the new role and encouraging the uptake of data science in order to lead business transformation in WA.
Minister for ICT and Innovation Hon. Don Punch MLA, expressed great enthusiasm over Mr Jenkins’ appointment and the extensive experience he will bring to the McGowan Government funded WADSIH.
WADSIH is an initiative of the Western Australian Government New Industries Fund.
At WADSIH, they provide a range of services to support businesses, government and academia with building their data science capability and advancing data science projects. This includes one-on-one advisory services, up-skilling programmes and design thinking workshops.
