Jump Starting a New Approach to Car Roadside Assistance

Greg Brown from about-to-be-launched roadside assistance app, Stuck, gives us the low down on what they’re building.

We noticed a huge proportion of Australian motorists have no roadside assistance cover, so we started building Stuck.

Our Perth-based team of software developers have created a new solution from the ground up, able to send fast and affordable roadside assistance to motorists who get stuck with car problems.

Many people decide not to pay annual subscription cover “just in case” they need help because it’s “unlikely to happen to them” …until it does! In fact, 3 out of 5 drivers have car problems each year, and those without cover are left stuck – unsure where to turn or what to do.

Stuck is jump-starting membership-free roadside assistance with a new on-demand service, which sends local pre-approved tyre, battery and automotive experts to the rescue when drivers get stuck.

Stuck has been designed and built here in Australia by Australians to enable Australians to assist their fellow Australians on the roadside.  We believe it’s time for some renewed energy in this traditional service sector.

Everyone has experienced being stuck on the side of the road and it always feels like you’re waiting forever, wondering when help will arrive. Our time is precious and we need to know whether the disruption will delay us 20 minutes, 2 hours or all day.  Stuck sorts that by live tracking your expert’s arrival via GPS and sharing their journey on your phone.

A number of people have also told us they had roadside assistance while the car was under new car warranty but sure enough, they breakdown just outside of that warranty period.  Getting assistance in that situation can be a logistical nightmare; not to mention incredibly frustrating.  Stuck fixes that without crippling your wallet or requiring you to have the unnecessary foresight to get subscription-based cover in advance.  All you need is a smartphone and a credit card (or PayPal).

Our research has shown that most roadside assistance callouts are for straightforward tasks (if you have the right tools handy) and shouldn’t cost the earth.  The majority of all assistance calls are for flat tyres, flat batteries, lock-outs and running out of fuel.

We feel that the Aussie motorist should be able to get this help simply, easily and without having to pay for a service they may rarely use – that’s why we believe the on-demand roadside assistance model is the best.

Using local automotive experts who have some availability, rather than full-time mobile mechanics, means the cost and complexity is greatly reduced for everyone involved. With the widespread acceptance of on-demand apps like Uber, we believe the time for this sort of service has arrived.

The extra positive is that local Aussie small business owners will now have the opportunity to reach new nearby customers when they need immediate assistance.
