The 2023 Indo-Pacific Space and Earth Conference (IPSEC) will bring world leaders to Perth in October to bring space technology and innovation to the ground.
This world-first event will look to put WA on the map as a leading hub for technology in space and on earth. It’s not just about space tech, it’s also about tech that relates to space, and can be used on earth.
WA has long been recognised as a remote operations centre of excellence. There are more ex-NASA people here in Perth than anywhere on the planet.
[The conference is] a chance to show off our growing space industry to the world and build WA’s reputation as a centre of innovation.
WA Science Minister Stephen Dawson MLC
IPSEC will feature demonstrations to show how space technology can be used to improve efficiency, productivity, and sustainability across a variety of industries, from agriculture, to mining, to healthcare.
“Space technology provides huge potential to drive economic benefit across the whole economy – providing insights for farmers, supporting emergency services, enhancing decarbonisation, sustainability, food production and connecting regional communities,” said WA Premier Roger Cook.
On display will be cutting-edge technology such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum, autonomous systems, remote sensing, robotics, and next-generation communications.
The conference’s primary focus is to go beyond WA to diversify the economy by shining a light on all sectors at an international level.
Experts from across the globe including Woodside and NASA, will orbit around new ideas and developments in a series of panel sessions and exhibition booths.
Around 500 government and research organisation spokespersons from the space, agricultural, defence, energy, robotic, resources, advanced manufacturing, and education arenas are also expected to make an appearance over the two days.
Minister Dawson acknowledges the chance to host IPSEC as a win for our state.
“The Cook Government is proud to support this burgeoning sector, with multi-million-dollar investments in remote operations, research projects and satellite technology in recent years,” he said.
IPSEC will take place at the Pan Pacific Hotel from 23-24 October.
