Engineering student startup Enitiate has recently completed a battery storage feasibility study for the Town of Mosman Park.
Co-founded by engineering students Caleb McKenna, Jason Lu and Emma Bond, they saw an opportunity for engineering students to develop their skills by applying their technical knowledge whilst making a contribution to social causes.
Community partners work with Enitiate to develop a project scope for a technical problem they are facing; Enitiate’s project teams of engineering students then explore potential solutions to these technical problems and present them to their partners. The project members bring a variety of experiences and knowledge of their study specialisations to the team.
Enitiate’s pilot project, completed during the first university semester of 2023, was to determine the feasibility of a community battery storage facility.
Jason, who oversaw the project delivery, said the team researched technical details such as battery degradation and emissions modelling in conjunction with ownership models. Additionally, funding opportunities were explored to analyse the overall cash flows of such a venture, assessing the timeline of a return on investment. Enitiate have presented the team’s findings to the Town of Mosman Park Council.
Since this project started it has been a wonderful experience collaborating with such an enthusiastic and committed team. They have willingly accepted our suggestions and feedback and we are delighted with the feasibility study undertaken,” said Gray Stead, Chief of Operations at the Town of Mosman Park.
Gray said the Town now has a clear understanding of community battery storage following the presentation to the Council.
“They commented on what a professional presentation it was, and they were very impressed with the work undertaken. The Town of Mosman Park would have no hesitation in working with the team from Enitiate again,” he said.
Caleb said Enitiate is excited to partner with Donut Waste and Green World Revolution Ltd this semester and is looking to build partnerships with startups and small businesses for future projects.
Enitiate is a young organisation full of passionate and inquisitive engineering students; we are looking for community partners that may be facing a technical challenge that they would see benefit in our project teams exploring solutions to.

Enitiate’s students are supported by professional industry partners, including multinational engineering consultancy Wood, who help them develop technical knowledge and offer mentoring advice. The students have access to engineering expertise in a professional environment, which fuels their development and grows their professional networks.
Enitiate’s vision is to provide a platform for sustainable relationships. Through this platform, students acquire practical and professionally focused skills, community partners can further their cause, and industry engages with a driven student community.
Emma says that they want to empower engineering students to develop as leaders and bring confidence and a community mindset when they enter the professional workforce.
