Learn the hints and tips to put your best foot forward and navigate career challenges in the tech space!

It’s time to move from behind the screen to in front of those that can help your career. This can be one of the biggest challenges you face as a recent tech graduate, higher degree and Ph.D student, but help is at hand.

Join us for an interactive and hands-on workshop as you learn first-hand from technical industry experts the hints and tips to:

• Compiling and presenting a technical CV (digital templates and one-on-one feedback sessions included)

• Learning what IT recruiters look for

• Interview tips – don’t miss this fun take on what NOT to do

• Improving and using your personal brand effectively – including LinkedIn tips to set you apart from the rest

• Networking know-how, tech-style!

All followed by ample time to put your new networking skills into practise over drinks and canapes.

It’s time to hit the ground running, put your best foot forward, and navigate tech career challenges with confidence.

Dr Kathleen Franklyn

Kathleen is a career consultant with extensive skills and expertise in career development and management in the Tertiary and Private sector. She has been involved in several research and scholarship projects in the Higher Education sector which sought to understand, map and influence the embedding of employability in curriculum. Kathleen has successfully transitioned through 3 major careers: Research Scientist, Pharmaceutical Industry Professional, and Career/Talent Management and so has a unique understanding of the challenges and rewards to pursuing your career goals.

Kathleen is passionate about making a difference, and has recently moved into the vocational educational sector. With knowledge and understanding of career challenges, employability and market trends Kathleen is curious about how we can make navigating the different educational options easier for people. She is interested in understanding the intricacies of how we can create an educational ecosystem which allows people to create their career path, navigate opportunities and challenges and succeed in the world of work.

Madelene Kawitzki + Chathu Jayawardena

Madelene and Chathu are IT recruitment managers from Australia’s largest specialist IT recruitment firm. Peoplebank is the dedicated IT arm in Recruit Group which has 20,000 employees globally, and includes such well known companies as Chandler Macleod, Leaders IT, Glassdoor and Indeed.

Madelene is the WA Client executive for Leaders IT, and is dedicated to developing diverse and early career professionals through capacity development graduate programs. Madelene has spent the past 3 years managing the IT recruitment for large enterprise clients including Rio Tinto, BHP, Bankwest, and Curtin University. Prior to entering tech recruitment, Madelene worked in IT Research programs at Gartner, managing professional development programs for CIO and CSCOs in the UK and US. Beyond early career development, Madelene also assists data science major international students with getting employer sponsorship and permanent residency.

Chathu has over 8 years IT recruitment industry experience, and manages Federal and WA State Government IT recruitment. Over the past 3 years, Chathu has grown Peoplebank to become the largest IT recruitment supplier to WA government, and has helped countless tech grads get their first start. She was also nominated for the Women in Technology WA (WiTWA) awards in 2021 for the community work she has done to help graduates develop early in their careers.
