Our first in person presentation event for 2021!
We’ll be sure to bring along some prime tech merch to celebrate our first presentation in a while so bring along some gold coins for the raffle!

After the event we will move to Fat Boyz across the road, for some hangs and further chats, and you can get yourself a drink!

You Shall Not Pass: Logging in to Input Constrained Devices

When historians joked that “on the internet, no-one knows you’re a dog”, they neglected to foresee that these dogs would one day be logging into a video streaming service on their internet-enabled fridge.
A lack of opposable thumbs is the least of their worry, for even opposably-thumbed humanoids get frustrated entering special characters using poorly designed on-screen keyboards.
In this presentation, we’ll take a brief look at current authentication flows, and discover one that’s designed to side-step the need for clumsy input devices altogether. This will be followed by a live coding demo to see the theory in action.

Ben Dechrai is a technologist with a strong focus on security and privacy. At 11 years old he wrote software to stop his parents from breaking the family PC, and now he works as a developer advocate for Auth0. He enjoys helping developers find the joy of problem-solving and experimentation.

Due to COVID we do have some restrictions.
– The event capacity is limited to 30 people, with this in mind please be sure to keep your RSVP up to date, and please try not to pull out at the last minute. RSVP will close 1 day prior to the event.
– We will not be providing food or drinks at this event, please feel free to bring your own water bottle which you can fill up at the venue.
– Masks may need to be worn depending on WA Health guidelines at the time. Please bring a mask with you, and do your best to socially distance.
– For tracing purposes we will have people sign in on arrival so we have a record of who was in attendance.
