How often have we been out with friends and after a couple of beers, had the best, most creative business idea ever that solves all of the world’s problems and makes us an overnight billionaire? Then, the next day we reflect on it and say to ourselves, in the famous words of Netflix’s Reid Hoffman, “That will never work.”
The Drunk Ideas Podcast will be taking a deeper dive into some of these ideas and exploring the creativity behind them, why they will and won’t work, and how those ideas could be turned into the next Netflix.
The podcast is co-hosted by Jason Balchand, COO of So Media Group and Chair of StartupWA, and Natasha Prévot, Co-founder and Director of Techvisa.
On each episode, the co-hosts will be joined by a guest(s) sparking some creative and insightful banter around the thought process that goes into the early stages of building a startup. It tackles things like:
- The merits of the idea, including why we think it will and won’t work.
- The problem it solves and whether there’s a big market for it.
- How we’d go about getting our first 100 customers.
- Whether it’s a venture scale company and will we consider raising capital or bootstrap it?
The mission behind the podcast is to give young, prospective entrepreneurs, the encouragement and confidence they need to get started with their ‘drunk idea’ and just get out there and validate to see if there’s a market.
Jason Balchand told Startup News, “Natasha and I are lucky enough to have a strong network in the Aussie tech sector. It’s great to see the country’s tech leaders coming onto the show to have a bit of light-hearted banter around those ‘what if’ conversations we all have around these ideas. I’m sure listeners will learn a lot from hearing these conversations which normally only happen in small circles — I know I’ve learnt from recording the episodes to date.”
The first three episodes are now live with the next one dropping on Monday. Episode one features Luke Anear, CEO of SafetyCulture, and Jessy Wu, Partner at AfterWork Ventures, and talks about the idea of VR Dining.
In episode two, Paz Pisarski, Co-founder of The Community Collective and Dickie Currer, Head of Ecosystem at Scalare Partners and Co-national Lead at Tech Australia Advocates join the hosts to talk about Doomsday Prep Boxes.
You’ll have to listen in and subscribe to find out what episodes three and four dive into.
The Drunk Ideas Podcast is available on Spotify and all major podcast networks.
