Now in its 18th year, the WA Innovators Of The Year awards have become a staple on the WA Innovation Calendar. This year, the award ceremony was held at a new, larger venue — the Westin Hotel’s grand ballroom.
The awards are aimed at exceptional innovators in Western Australia who have developed an outstanding innovative product, technology, or service, which is at the emerging innovation or growth phase of development. Every year, it’s a showcase of some of the best and most inspiring young companies that are being built here in WA.
This year’s total prize pool totalled $240,000 and 26 finalists all being celebrated for their achievements.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services – Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Directorate was awarded the inaugural WA Government Innovators of the Year award with its State-wide connected radio system linking together every marine rescue group to enable enhanced monitoring of distress calls.
Minister Dawson also announced a new category which will be introduced for next year’s awards that celebrates youth entrepreneurship — the Western Australian Young Innovators of the Year award. “Innovation is all about evolution, and it was my pleasure to announce another expansion to the WA Innovators of the Year Awards with a new category to begin next year focused on our younger innovators.”
