At Perth Morning Startup this morning, Minister for Innovation Stephen Dawson launched ‘Dealroom WA‘, an online data platform that showcases the startups, scaleups, investors, funding deals, programs and corporates that make up the WA innovation ecosystem.
Funded by the New Industries Fund, and in partnership with local deals data gatherer Techboard, WA is the 4th state to launch their own version of Dealroom in Australia.
Founded in Amsterdam in 2013, the Dealroom platform services a global network of governments, tech ecosystems and jurisdictions.
Dealroom’s global data coverage includes 2.1M companies globally, of which 1.7M are startups. It also tracks 330K funding rounds from 120K investors. Dealroom’s ecosystem solution is used by more than 70 governments worldwide, including Victoria, NSW and Queensland who launched their own versions within the last year or two.
The platform provides real-time and historic information on the size and activity within WA’s early-stage innovation ecosystem, including support systems such as accelerator programs, co-working spaces, universities, grants and assistance.
The data presented across the platform is consolidated through publically available information, manual research, and verification with the startups themselves and through ecosystem partnerships.
The data shows the WA sector’s total enterprise value has risen by a factor of 2.8 over the past five years to to $1.2 billion.
Startups can claim their own company profile, and help keep the data up to date. The platform shows deals data in WA stretching back to 2010, and has already captured 460+ verified startups and 200 funding rounds.
The platform is FREE for the public to use; although you’re limited to only 5 searches and results without creating a (free) profile. Once you have a profile, you have unlimited use. The only thing you can’t do (without paying) is to download the data.
