It would be hard to find anyone in the Perth startup ecosystem who hasn’t heard of Spacecubed. The organisation’s impact on the ecosystem has benefited many — from events run at their spaces — especially at Riff where it all started — to members of their co-working and the work that Meshpoints do.
Spacecubed is becoming quite the behemoth, with many programs operating under the banner, including Core, Plus Eight, Startup Weekend, and Perth Landing Pad to name a few. They’ve also recently expanded their operations into Adelaide, Sydney, and Newman, and no doubt plans for many more locations on the horizon.
As Spacecubed continues to expand and innovate, they’ve today announced some changes in their leadership structure and team, which they’ve explained has been designed to increase their future impact and drive meaningful outcomes for the community.
Ophelie Cutier will be stepping into the role of Acting CEO of Spacecubed effective as of July 1st 2024. Ophelie started with Spacecubed back in 2012 as a Community Manager — one of the first employees of the organisation — working her way through the ranks into the role of COO, where she’s been since January 2023.
The experience and knowledge of the organisation gained through her 12 years with the organisation will be invaluable stepping into this new role.
Ophelie has spearheaded the growth of Spacecubed’s spaces and programs, growing from 500 sqm in Perth, to over 6,500+ sqm of flexible space across Australia in 2024, with their programs investing $3.65 million into local startups and an additional $1.25m into ecosystem building activities that have empowered over 4,000 individuals.
Ophelie said “I am honoured and thrilled to take on the role of Acting CEO at Spacecubed. Our community has flourished, supported by our nationwide network of spaces, programs, and cutting-edge technology. Reflecting on our journey, I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved. I am confident that the next chapter will be even more remarkable, and I am eager to lead us forward, embracing new challenges and continuing to make a lasting impact.”
As part of the changes, Lauren Quinn will be moving into the role of General Manager, focusing on driving growth across Spacecubed’s Spaces and Programs and supporting their member base of over 3,000 businesses Australia-wide.
One of the most recognisable faces in WA’s startup ecosystem, Nate Sturcke, has been appointed into the newly established role of Head of Impact, leading Meshpoints and creating the foundations to ensure a strong, resilient innovation ecosystem in WA. In addition, Nate will continue to develop the Innovative Society Index, measuring the long-term impact and telling the stories of the programs, people, and companies within WA.
Additional team changes include Chris Tan as Operations Manager, Isabel Kasten as Marketing Lead, and Isabelle Tadros as Western Sydney Startup Hub Sales & Operations.
If you’re anything like us, you’re probably asking yourself “wait, what does that mean for Brodie?”
Brodie McCulloch will work on strategic opportunities for Spacecubed and CORE, both nationally and internationally, including the Innovation Index, Meshpoints, and the Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct.
