Our monthly breakfast series is an opportunity for representatives from across the MTP sector to connect, collaborate and learn about upcoming opportunities, and hear the stories and successes of WA organisations developing health and medical innovations. Join us over a light breakfast in the last week of each month at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

Featuring OncoRes Medical – translating a surgeon’s sense of touch
The morning will feature OncoRes Medical’S CEO and Managing Director Dr Katharine Giles AND Chief Operating Officer Dr Simon Graindorge alongside MTPConnect’s own Dr Tracey Wilkinson.
Incomplete removal of tumour during surgery results in billions of dollars of unnecessary expenditure in repeat surgeries. Current methods addressing this issue are inadequate due to either poor accuracy or excessive time and cost.
OncoRes Medical is a medical device company aiming to address this problem by developing an intraoperative imaging technology that translates the surgeon’s sense of touch into a microscale image which will improve surgical accuracy and reduce complication rates.
The Perth-based company was founded in 2016 and is funded by the Medical Research Commercialisation Fund. OncoRes Medical collaborates with leading researchers at the University of Western Australia, the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research and breast cancer surgeons and pathologists from the Western Australian Department of Health.

About our speakers – Dr Katharine Giles and Dr Simon Graindorge
Dr Katharine Giles has had experience on both sides of the funding process, having worked at Brandon Capital Partners and Stone Ridge Ventures before taking up the role of CEO and Managing Director at OncoRes. With start up experience in medical apps, diagnostics and fitness devices, Kath still practices as a medical doctor within the surgical field. Kath combines her investment experience and clinical knowledge with a keen business insight as a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Dr Simon Graindorge has spent almost 20 years in the healthcare industry, with significant experience as an investor in MedTech and digital health/healthtech. Simon is currently Chief Operating Officer at OncoRes Medical and Entrepreneur-in-Residence (Life Sciences) at IP Group Australia. Simon has spent almost 20 years as an investor and operator in medical device and digital health companies in the UK and has extensive experience as both an operating executive and board director investing in, building and growing start-ups, early stage and emerging growth companies based on early-stage, deep technology innovations across healthcare.
The team will discuss their recent breakthrough device designation from the FDA, tips on building a growing medtech company from Perth and what they’ve learnt from participating in competitions and accelerator programs. They’ll also be taking questions from the audience.
