Students of Cyber

6 September, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Students of Cyber
Join us for September’s Students of Cyber (SoC) Industry Connect meetup hosted by AWS!

**Please note, this event is for over 18s only. To access the AWS offices you will need to show identification matching the name on your ticket.**

University and TAFE students of cyber security! SoC is your chance to expand your network, link up with industry professionals and discover insights into cyber security from their career journey.

For industry people and recruiters, this is a great opportunity to meet with the future of cyber security and get to know potential talent that will help drive our state’s cyber sector.

This promises to be a fun event filled with presentations from an inspiring panel who will discuss their career path from studies to employment at AWS.

Scaling security: Optimise for fast and secure delivery

At Amazon Web Services, security teams are continuously focused on raising the security bar while improving the builder experience in all security engagements. As organisations grow, security does not scale unless it’s everyone’s job. To enable this, you can optimise your security capabilities such that product teams own their own security, and evolve the central security team’s role to enable product teams to deliver securely.

In this session hear from Byron Pogson, a Senior Security Architect at AWS on how he helps teams across Australia and New Zealand design, build, and deliver with security in mind.

Panel Discussion

Jack Munro, Security Engineer at Canva – An ex TAFE student, now senior security engineer at Canva who’s passionate about making the engineering experience simple for everyone. He’s part of a new team that’s securing the way we interface with our data, tools and systems, empowering everybody to do the best work of their lives.

Karen Ng, Security Engineer at Canva – Graduated from Curtin University in the Cyber Security stream. Rotated through various teams such as Cyber Capabilities, Monitoring & Response and Cloud Platform as a graduate at Woodside and recently joined Canva as a security engineer. Interests include cloud security and puppies.

Mark Loney, Security Squad Lead at VGW – Currently working as Security Squad Lead at VGW. My interests span from app sec to cyber threat intelligence. I began my career as a software engineer before pivoting into cyber security thanks to WannaCry.

As with all SoC events, there will be plenty of time for Q&A’s and networking.
