Vitruvian's 2nd gen Trainer+ launches this week

Perth fitness tech startup Vitruvian has announced the launch of its second-generation product, the Vitruvian Trainer +. An accompanying fitness app also introduces goal-orientated programs and will include the ability to build teams.

Alongside this, they will soon launch Vitruvian Play, a gamified connected-fitness experience.

Based in West Perth, Vitruvian launched its first strength training product last year, which is now in sold 20 countries.

Impressive growth during pandemic

With the help of investment and impressive sales, Vitruvian’s next-gen product launches tomorrow (19 November).

The original ‘V-Form Trainer’ is the brainchild of Jon Gregory, who had worked as a high-frequency trader when the financial trading tool was first emerging.

An applied physicist by education with multiple Science degrees and an MBA from Curtin University, Jon’s expertise in building complex algorithms that analyse behaviours and respond favourably to certain conditions laid the foundation for what became Vitruvian.

During quiet moments on the markets, Gregory kept up his fitness with a set of weights in his trading room. Struck by the stark contrast between the sophisticated technology used at work and the rudimentary heavy weights used to build strength for centuries, he set about building a digital weight system underwritten by algorithms, with the intention to push people to train more effectively and efficiently.

Vitruvian has raised more than A$30M in a little over a year in 3 rounds, grown enterprise value from 0 to $100M post money, built 2 production lines, delivered 1,000 products, launched a second generation of hardware, and built a team of 27 with no churn.

“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved,” Jon told Startup News.

Inside the slimline carbon fibre Vitruvian platform are two small, powerful motors that deliver weight via adaptive algorithmic technology and two retractable cables. The resistance generated ranges from 0kg to 200kg.

Smart algorithms constantly respond to the way the users move. By reading the range of motion and speed of an exercise, the weight adjusts, up to 50 times per second, to both challenge and support the user to maximize each rep while also acting as a spotter.

The new Trainer+ includes new features and improved weight range

Trainer + Features

Competitors in the digital weight arena cannot deliver anywhere near the amount of weight as the Vitruvian Trainer +, which is also free-standing and small in size.

The machine weighs 38kg, is easily manoeuvrable with a handle and wheels, and is intentionally compact for storage in the smallest of homes, fitting under a couch or bed when not in use.

The new Features in the Vitruvian Trainer + include a larger weight range from 3 – 200kg, Vitruvian’s own ‘quick connection system’, one handed attachment of handles, bars, straps, and other accessories.

In the Trainer + upgraded motors have created an even smoother motion feel, with a whisper silent machine. The accompanying app provides access to world class trainers with new classes added every week, as well as goal-oriented programs that users can follow and monitor their training and keep inspired and motivated.

The new trainer retails for A$3,150, with a monthly membership $49 per device, with unlimited users.
