Aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs who are looking to launch a new business idea are now invited to apply for Curtin University’s 2021 Accelerate program.

The free 10-week program, which will run from February to April 2021, is open to Curtin students, staff and alumni who need support and guidance to commercialise their business idea. Curtin Ignition graduates are also eligible.

Curtin University Director of Commercialisation Rohan McDougall said more than 40 businesses have participated in Curtin Accelerate over the years, going on to launch products, win awards and receive investment funding.

“Participants who are selected for the program will receive a $5,000 equity-free grant, have the opportunity to join business startup workshops delivered by experienced professionals, and have access to key industry contacts and networks including commercialisation experts, investors and potential partners.”

“Each year, a group of promising innovators and entrepreneurs join the Accelerate program and by the end of the 10-week program they have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to key contacts who could help get their idea to the next level.

“The success of the Curtin Accelerate program is testament to the calibre of our alumni and their business success post-program and we look forward to working with the latest team of innovators and supporting them in the next stages of their start-up businesses.”

Participants on the program also are provided free registration to the West Tech Fest 2020 conference, and exposure to the Extreme Tech Challenge and associated global community of investors and entrepreneurs.

The program’s recent success stories include tech startup AMLab – a productivity tool for container ports. The team is developing the next productivity leap for the container port industry by improving performance of the container movements.

The team uses 3D laser scanning technology to support safer and more efficient movement of containers. The company has just finalised its first capital raise after completing Accelerate earlier this year.
