Awards programs can be a great way to put your head above the parapet, galvanise the team and get some much-needed promotion and industry pats on the back.

Here are 3 such programs that are all closing their nomination doors soon, in May, some of which have been extended…

  • Premier’s Science Awards – ceremony (lodging period extended to May 27)
  • Australian Financial Review (AFR) Most Innovative Companies – nominations (closing date extended to May 8)
  • Australian Technologies Competition – entries (opened on April 2, accepting entries until May 8)

In addition, Springboard’s E3 program for early stage female founder businesses is open, with applications closing May 8th. The program runs in Perth in July this year. See below for more info.

Notice how 3 of them close on May 8th… so we may not say ‘May the Fourth be with you’ (which of course is Star Wars day), but may the 8th be with you. 🤩

PREMIER’S SCIENCE AWARDS

The Premier’s Science Awards is a State Government initiative which recognises and celebrates outstanding scientific research and engagement taking place in the state.

The Awards cover all fields of science, including natural, medical, applied and technological science, engineering and mathematics.

In addition, inductees who are recognised at the presentations for making lifelong contributions to science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) become apart of the WA Science Hall of Fame.

However, in response to COVID-19, one of the measures taken by the Australian Government has affected this year’s Premier’s Science Awards ceremony: the announcement that all non-essential gatherings of more than 100 people have been suspended from March 18.

As a result, modifications have had to be made for the ceremony which was initially scheduled in August. Alternatives, such as delaying the event or holding it online, are being considered.

In light of these new circumstances, the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation will be adopting an online nomination process for both the Premier Science Awards and the Western Australian Science Hall of Fame.

To allow additional time for applications, the lodging period has been extended 4 weeks to Wednesday May 27 2020 at 10am AWST.

For now, it is advised that you may wish to download the various application forms (which will replicate the hard copy-based applications) available here.

The form for this year’s nominees to be inducted into the WA Science Hall of Fame is available here.

For any specific queries, please contact [email protected] or phone 6277 2880. Another update will be provided towards the end of the month.

AUSTRALIAN TECHNOLOGIES COMPETITION

The Australian Technologies Competition (ATC) is now open!

Enter Australia’s leading tech competition and late stage accelerator, shortlisting homegrown tech-based scaleups with the greatest global potential. Here’s your chance to showcase your technology and solution that solves the challenges of our times – health, supply chains, food security, climate change, cyber security, emergencies and more.

In an all virtual format this year due to COVID-19, the competition opened on April 2, and is accepting entries until May 8.

Scaleups in particular have no doubt struggled during this difficult time during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We hope it will help them to accelerate out of this COVID period, as a result of our mentoring, the industry and investor connections they get and the strengthening of value propositions and business plans that occurs.

Named E3 as it aims to Empower, Evolve and Escalate women-led technology of life sciences businesses.

The program is designed as a hands-on learning experience, facilitated by industry leaders. SBE is bringing this program to Perth with a program set to commence in July. The program will comprise of 2 x 2 hour weekly sessions, that for the foreseeable future, will be held virtually, making  the program incredibly accessible and convenient.  The virtual format also enables  us to draw on our national and international pool of experts to join us in the Perth program.

The July program will be facilitated by Mary Minas. An entrepreneur herself, Mary is also a film producer, associate of SPARK Deakin and founder of Sense of Self.

Applications are NOW OPEN for the next intake of E3 Perth – you can apply here if you’re interestedApplications will close on May 8th 2020.
