A leading technologist who heads up manufacturing operations for Facebook’s consumer hardware division and Oculus AR/VR has been appointed an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University…

Silicon Valley-based Dr Paul Herz, who has twenty years’ experience taking transformational products to market, is joining Curtin’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Executive Education Advisory Panel as well as being appointed an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Business and Law.

Those that attended last year’s West Tech Fest in December may remember Paul’s keynote address, in which he was working in stuff that was so secret, he could hardly say what it was. His insights into AR and VR was leading edge of course, and one of the highlights of the conference.

As part of his new role, he will provide guest lectures in entrepreneurship and engineering, deliver workshops on manufacturing and logistics, mentor students and provide strategic advice to the University on industry engagement and commercialisation.

“It is an honour to join Curtin as an Adjunct Professor and I’m looking forward to working with the university to expand its already strong curriculum,” Paul said.

Paul delivered an entrepreneurship masterclass at Curtin Uni in 2016. He completed his undergraduate degree in engineering physics from the University of California at Berkeley and received his doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in electrical engineering and computer science.

Prior to working at Facebook in its consumer hardware division, he worked at Apple for several years in a senior role overseeing new product development across multiple product lines.

Curtin University Faculty of Business and Law Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Nigel de Bussy said he was delighted by the appointment of Dr Herz.

“I am thrilled to welcome Dr Herz to Curtin Business School,” Professor de Bussy said. “He is at the forefront of the digital technologies disrupting industries worldwide and connects us directly with Silicon Valley.

“Dr Herz will offer rare insights into the world of a global tech entrepreneur, providing inspiration to the next generation of Western Australian business leaders.
