Perth mum of 1, Meg Burrage, has been recognised as a “Most Influential Brand” finalist in the 2018 National Business Brilliance Awards…

The wonderfully named ‘National Business Brilliance’ awards – who wouldn’t want to win one of them? – are the brainchild of one of Australia’s leading networking groups for mums in business – Motivating Mum.

They celebrate and showcase the outstanding hard work, determination and achievements of many mums in business across the country.

BubDesk, which has been operating for 2 years out of Perth, partners with childcare providers to create mini parent workspaces onsite within their childcare centres.

Now operating in 14 centres, having expanded to Sydney and Queensland, the service makes it possible for parents to return to work when they’re ready in a productive environment, but close enough to continue feeding or offering cuddles as needed.

“For me personally, working from home was not the solution. Too many homebased distractions, my baby never slept long enough, and no one is there to laugh at my jokes!

I couldn’t understand why we didn’t have a better solution to blend office with childcare, so I just went ahead and created it.” founder Meg Burrage told Startup News.

The initial idea in 2016 was to hire space in Northbridge and provide creche facilities, but this has morphed into a more scalable business model in which Bubdesk finds new enrollees for the day care centre, while the centre provides space for the parent. The centre invoices the parents for the child, and Bubdesk charges for the desk. The parent gets to work and be close to their child.

“Especially in those early months, when say, the Mum is still feeding, this works perfectly for both mother and child,” said Meg. “And it works great for the day centre and Bubdesk.”

Win win win and win.

The Motivating Mum National Business Brilliance Awards are made up of 12 categories each representing particular areas of business including social media, time management, business clarity, client delight and more.

What sets these particular awards apart from many others is they are judged by a panel rather than social media voting. This means all winners are determined based on merit.

Twelve amazing mums in business will be announced as the best in their field at the National Business Brilliance Awards night which will be held on Saturday 26th May in Melbourne. Each category winner will win coverage in Kid Magazine (Awards media partner) and a business package valued at more than $2,500.

Returning to work herself, Meg is always on the lookout for day care centres and parents willing to give the Bubdesk solution a try. Plus, she is interested in hearing from major corporates who take gender diversity and helping new parents return to work seriously.
