Perth-based tech startup, CourseGenius, has announced the release of a suite of pre-made, legally-authored online compliance courses.

When you start a business, you expect the riskiest element will be the business itself. Will it succeed? Will it flop in the first year? Will I make any money? But as your business grows, it becomes apparent there is a world of risk you could only have imagined.

In WA a business can be fined up to $500,000 for breaching the Occupational Health and Safety Act. In other states, it’s up to $3 million. Iconic manufacturer RM Williams was fined $90,000 earlier this year for breaching work health and safety laws after an employee was seriously injured, partly due to a lack of appropriate training.

And it’s not just safety that can be risky. Workplace bullying costs Australian businesses $693 million each year.

Even though these risks could be avoided by appropriately training staff, it gets harder and harder to stay ahead as your business scales and employee numbers rise.

WA startup CourseGenius is delivering a solution. The elearning company, whose platform enables businesses to create and deliver training online, has now released a suite of pre-made, legally-authored online compliance courses. The courses can be accessed on all devices, whenever employees need to access them.

Based in the Innovation Centre in Technology Park, their new offering includes online courses in Workplace Bullying and Harassment and Social Media and Electronic Communication, with additional topics to follow in 2017

These online courses make training that was once expensive and only available to businesses with big budgets, accessible to businesses of all sizes.

Co-founder of CourseGenius Sarah Mateljan says her legal background gave her insight into the potential cost of failing to run formal compliance training. She says they’ve listened to their customers who say it’s hard for them to find engaging and legally compliant training content on a budget.

“Our new suite of compliance courses solves this problem by providing interactive, legally authored online training on-demand,” Sarah says. “Our customers, such as ECOYA are well placed to make this move as they are more agile than larger enterprises, and can more easily adopt new technologies to solve problems.”

Leading home fragrance and bodycare company ECOYA were one of the first to sample CourseGenius’ new suite of courses.

Human Resources and Workplace Health and Safety Manager at ECOYA, Liza Jones, says the CourseGenius compliance courses were exactly what she was looking for.

“I oversee manufacturing where compliance and training is of critical importance,” Liza says. “Being a medium sized business, we are good at implementing practical training elements, however this not always reflected on paper.

“If I had to create the program myself, not only would it take me two or three days to prepare the material but I couldn’t be entirely sure that the content is correct and current.”

Businesses can sign up for a demonstration and a discussion with the CourseGenius team to see how you can get started in minutes.
