Perth’s first Web Design and Development Conference, Mixin, is one month away.

For its inaugural year Mixin revealed seven high profile speakers with backgrounds from international brands including Dropbox, Salesforce, Facebook, The New York Times, Google, DigitalOcean and Slack for a one-day world class conference at the State Theatre of WA on 28th October, 2016.

There is less than one week left to secure a standard ticket to Mixin with official ticket sales closing this Friday, 30th September at midnight (AWST).

Standard ticket holders will not only enjoy the all speaker sessions at the conference, but they will also receive a special Mixin t-shirt designed just for Mixin delegates, swag, free entry to the after party and also discounts to the workshops and other side events soon to be announced.

International and local sponsorship support has also been impressive for this first-time conference. Mixin are proudly supported by Mailchimp as the major event sponsor along with sponsorship support from Pin Payments, Claisebrook Design Community, Sketch and Offscreen Magazine. Joshua Allen, Mixin co-organiser, said:

”We’re almost overwhelmed by the amount of love and support that has poured from our community, both locally and overseas. We’ve got a pretty active and passionate bunch of creatives here in Perth who have been spreading the word, attending lead up events, offering to volunteer and have just been so keen to get involved,”

”Mix that in with our amazing sponsors who have made it possible for us to pack in so much extra value than we would have been able to as a small start-up not-for-profit. We can’t wait to give back to this wonderful community and deliver an excellent conference on October 28 and continuing to do so in the years to come.”

Complementing the collaborative theme of the conference, small group workshops with four of the speakers are also being hosted by the Mixin team in the lead up to the conference day:

“Designing and Developing Imaginative Layouts” with Andy Clarke (UK)

A full day 2 part workshop covering creative layouts with grids, consisting of a morning of design theory and creative thinking followed by an afternoon of practical implementation using modern CSS techniques.

“A different approach to responsive design with fluid typography” withMike Riethmuller (AUS)

Fluid units are a cornerstone of modern responsive web development, they play a key part in creating a quality experience on the web. This practical workshop will teach you to understand the basic concepts of fluid units, and also teach you the techniques for proper fluid layout, fluid typography, vertical rhythm and modular scales.

“Building an Illustrative Brand” with Alice Lee (USA)

As designers and engineers, it can be easy to forget to step away from the computer and seek creative inspiration in the simple, analog act of illustration. In reality, drawing plays a major role in the products that we create and use – from user education and onboarding flows, to iconography, to branding. In our workshop, we’ll explore a number of fun, collaborative creative exercises to experiment with different drawing approaches through the lens of product and branding. Let’s break it down and draw letterforms, symbols, even the environment around us – and then explore how we can take what we’ve made to create a distinguishing style to contribute to the voice and branding of a product. This workshop is a part of the global #drawtogether series.

“Designing Design Systems” with Jina Bolton (USA)

Design systems bring together style guides, patterns, UI libraries, CSS frameworks, and brand to help design teams build clear, efficient, consistent, and beautiful products. But, where does a design team or a solo designer begin? Jina, a designer who has helped build design systems for smaller design agencies and large-scale enterprise ecosystems alike, shares her process and experience so you can begin a design system of your own, and have the structure and insight needed for ongoing success.

Numbers are strictly limited. Workshop tickets range from $150-$600 and can be purchased online
via the website. For more information regarding the conference, side events and tickets, visit www.mixinconf.com
